Yan Chuliang (1947.8—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering of Beihang University and a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences (elected in 2015).
He received his doctor’s degree from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (now known as Beihang University). At present, he is Director of Beijing Aircraft Strength Institute, a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, an memberof the expert panel for key security projects of the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Committee, and Vice President of China Association of Inventions and so on.
Prof. Yan has been studying aircraft life and structural reliability for over four decades. He brought up the theory of economic life prediction and reliability assessment of aircraft structures,developed the key technologies in the load spectrum measurement field by a plane and aircraft life determination and extension. His work has been applied to thousands of planes and extended the service life greatly to ensure the aircrafts’safetyin China.
He has led more than 30 projects on the reliability of 22 national key planes, such as J-10 and H-6K. His publications include six monographs and over 200 papers. He has won a second prize of the State Technological Invention Award, two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award,a grand prize and seven first prizes of ministry-level awards. He also holds 61 patents for invention.
